Five small months and then goes away. Having arrived on the Côte d’Azur with the star label after good seasons in Galatasaray, Wesley Sneijder finally greatly disappointed during his stay in Nice. Only five appearances in Ligue 1 with a state of form in question.
It was enough for him to pack his bags in January, in the winter transfer window, to join Al Gharrafa in Qatar. In an interview with Helden, a Dutch newspaper, he explained why his adventure in Nice had run out of steam. « I went there to play football, to stay in touch with the national team. They changed to a completely different system, the coach suddenly wanted something else, from my first day at the club. »
These sudden changes and wanted by Lucien Favre would therefore be the beginning of complicated beginnings for Sneijder, who even participated in the barrage of Champions League against Naples in August. « I really do not understand why they took me. The agreements that were concluded were not respected subsequently. »
Passed by Ajax Amsterdam, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Galatasaray, Wesley Sneijder is 33 at the twilight of a career rich enough including its peak in 2010 with the triplet achieved with the ‘Nerazzurri’ and a final World Cup lost to Spain.
